Magnus, veteran's sword

Magnus, veteran's sword

Product Review (submitted on January 6, 2011):

I received this fine weapon recently, and all but a couple things about it are great.

The Good:
1. Balanced Very Well - It is weighted in the blade, like a real sword, but it's not so much of a difference that you can tell while actually using it,
2. Light - This makes it easier to use with one hand, as it is at historic longsword length (more in the Bad)
3. Good Handling - The hand and a half grip is true to realism, and is comfortable for someone familiar to this style grip, making it capable of one and two handed use.
4. The Foam - The foam on a Calimacil weapon is simply amazing. It can be put in water, smashed many hundreds and even thousands of times at full strength, stay in the sunlight without loosing it's color or weakening, and even be used in the cold without breaking.

The Bad:
1. The Paint - I'm aware that Calimacil has had trouble with the paint on their weapons in the past, and in fact said they fixed it. However, the paint on the hilt of my sword is peeling off slowly over time, bit by bit, and even a tad on the blade itself. Now, this doesn't affect the functionality, but I wanted a black and bronze sword, not an all black one. I assume that I received an older weapon (since there 12 in stock) that had an older paint job. If the paint wears away any more I will ask to send it back to either be replaced with a newer model or repainted with their new paint.
2. The Tip - Most Boffer or LARP groups I know require a stabbing tip with at least two inches of foam at the end. This (and all their swords I believe) only has a half inch. This makes the weapon "illegal" to stab with, and I would like to see this fixed with future model swords, so that stabbing with their weapons can be safer.
3. The Foam - While nothing about the foam is making it unusable, and in fact the foam they use to make their weapons from is quite amazing, the tip of my sword and along edges of the blade have little holes forming. I assume that this is from bubbles in the foam or something of that nature. I don't know if it can be fixed, but it is worth mentioning, and really isn't that big of a deal, since the foam as a whole is quite intact.
