Godefroi, The Sword of the Templars
Legend
The first Great Master, Hugues de Payens, and eight other templars, among which Godefroi de Saint-Omer, created the order of the templars in 1118. One of the symbols of the templars, two people riding one horse, comes from the fact that Hugues and Godefroi were so poor that they had to share the same horse to travel. originally, their mission was to protect the pilgrims. Throughout centuries this mission changed and they became more like the bankers of their days. This change of mission precipitated the decline of the order to its end in 1312 by the king of France.
