Black Bart, The Pirate Sabre
Legend
Bartholomew Roberts, a pirate from Wales, terrorized the Caribbean and the African coasts between 1719 and 1722. History remembers him as Black Bart because he captured more than 400 ships under the command of his ship the Royal Fortune; it made him the more triumphant pirate of his time. According to the legend, Black Bart would be the one to popularize the “walking of the plank”. His dark saga ended on February 10, 1722 when he perished under the fire of a canon grape shot from the English ship, the Swallow.
